Hey everyone. I wanted to see what people thought about having an events
meeting. We haven't had one in a while, and there are at least 3 different
folks who have approached me about doing events here at the Brick late this
month or early September. I personally have been of the mindset that more
should be done around the library itself than events, but these people are
mostly not people who have been working on Brick stuff since we re-opened.
So, I guess I am asking when is a good time for an events meeting for
people, and if people want to give the go ahead on these 3 events that have
been proposed:
1. Fermenting workshop. This would be a fermenting party/workshop for making
fermented food, put on by Michelle, Myra (of the Flying Brick), and Jack (of
the Gender Blender). They have been doing these kinds of things at other
folks homes, but want to open it up to more than just their circle of
friends. I really like this idea. Aiming for early September.
2. Trigger Warning Discussion/Workshop. This was an idea brought on by the
incident and resulting conversations at Radical Erotica Night in June. This
would be a workshop explaining PTSD and specifically the symptoms known as
triggers. What causes them? What are they? How can we handle them as a
community or as friends? and Why is it important to a safe space to know the
difference between triggers and being offended by something? Facilitated by
Ramey (of the Flying Brick) and James (of the Can I Kiss You? Collective).
Hoping for the first week of September.
3. Report Back from Palestine and Israel. This will be a more intimate talk
given by Aaron Linas about his experience with his birthright pilgrimage to
Israel and his adventure in the West Bank. Comparing living conditions in
the two countries and the United States, cultural observations, navigating
an occupied country, etc etc....Was hoping for the 26th of August.
Please let me know y'alls input on all of this! Hope to hear from you soon.
