So Max from Birthquake records is coming to richmond on January 9th with
his band Wood Spider and a travelling art show. Awesome right? Lets save
the date, here's his message:
.................
Hey there again, Jordan! It's Maxwell again. I hear the Thorn & Shout
show the other week went really well, so thanks again! Wish I could've
been there.
Well anyway, the reason I'm getting in touch is because my band, Wood
Spider, is going on tour, and we were hoping to get another show at the
Brick! We actually played there once before last winter, although we were
playing as a severely impeded version of ourselves, without our bassist or
cellist (and we generally regarded it as our worst performance of the tour
haha). This time we'll have our full six-piece band, and we'd love to show
y'all what a real Wood Spider show is like (much better).
*Wood Spider plays eclectic acoustic music resembling freak folk, folk
punk, post rock or ragtime, depending on our mood. Between the six of us,
we play accordion, cello, plectrum banjo, acoustic guitar, ukulele,
glockenspiel, upright bass, singing saw, washboard, cigar-box fiddle, and
percussion. We all sing! Maybe you’d like us if you like Blackbird Raum,
Thee Silver Mt. Zion, or Man Man.

And here's some videos of us playing at recent shows:

We’re traveling with a gallery of artwork and literature, aiming to to
transform whatever space we perform into a multimedia experience, bringing
visual arts and literature to an audience that may not otherwise seek it
out (all we need is some wall and table space to set it up). We hope to
help to facilitate DIY artist collaboration, and foster a community of
artists who would rather collaborate with other artists as opposed to
faceless middlemen and businessmen.
We're hoping to have the show on Wednesday, January 9th! Would that date
work for y'all?
*
..........................
I have some ideas involving having local richmond artists bringing some
work, setting up a gallery, and having a few bands. We can talk about it
more at the next meeting.
