Hey y'all, I really think we should jump on this. I can't be a main
organizer because of my capacity right now, but Jordan, Ellen, Janissa, or
Katie, it sounds like it might be "write" up your alley? (heh, get it?) If
anyone is interested in coordinating this with this person, please speak up
and email them! I told them I'd give whoever a week to get in touch with
them, and if they didn't hear from anyone at the Brick in a week, they
would email again and I'd nag someone.

To the Flying Brick Library:
I'm a former RVA dweller currently living in Maine for graduate school, but
this
summer I'll be back in town. I'm a masters student currently studying
radical
pedagogy for basic writing, and I was wondering if The Flying Brick would be
interested in my teaching a course for people who haven't previously felt
comfortable with
writing. I believe that having a more positive relationship to writing can
be a
powerful tool for self-liberation and the development of critical
consciousness.
I know that this is a city of writers, and I'm sure you've offered classes
on
writing in the past; however, I feel that I have a unique course to teach,
which is
essentially a critical examination of the conventions of academic and formal
writing. I would like more people to be able to make informed decisions
about which conventions
to use to further their aims, and which to reject or subvert.
Please let me know if you would be interested in providing a space for this
class.
If not, I would be interested in what other opportunities there are to
volunteer
with The Flying Brick. I am a huge fan of voluntary learning spaces and
would like
to spend some time becoming part of this one.
