Hey y'all!
I just wanted to see how others felt about this issue:
Christopher Maxwell, who works with and helped found WRIR, asked
permission to record the lecture on Friday, a talk about sustainability.
But I realized after we'd been having an open discussion for a while
that he was actually recording all the comments made after the lecture
was over.
Since Alexis was the only one speaking during the first part and wanted
the lecture recorded for future use/information sharing, I felt okay
about that.
Christopher asked me directly whether he had permission to record just
part or all of the event and I told him he could only record the
beginning. He ignored that request.
I realize nothing too compromising or controversial, by progressive
standards, was said, and so I don't think there is cause for anyone who
attended to be alarmed.
However, the fact that he ignored what I specifically asked him to
do... that really bothers me, and makes me feel that he should not be
welcome at future events, and should not be allowed to record anything
from now on. But I don't know if I would trust him to show up and not
record...
So, I just wanted to know how serious people feel this is? I think it
can be a security risk, and this kind of disregard for folks' wishes is
the problem... more that, in the future, this could be potentially
harmful or cause problems for people, and Brick events should be safe.
