Dear friends,

Powerful business and political interests are promoting the construction of
a commercial baseball stadium in Richmond's Shockoe Bottom, once the site
of the second-largest slave-trading market in all of North America. Instead
of desecrating this Sacred Ground, Shockoe Bottom should be reclaimed and
properly memorialized, out of respect for the many thousands of people who
suffered there and also so the truth can be told about how this country was
really founded and built. As in has been in South Africa, learning the
Truth is the prerequisite to Reconciliation.
