Hey all! My friend Michelle passed this on as something we could host a the
brick. i'd like put this on with the help of someone else (i might have to
work that night but could possibly get my shift covered, but if I can't I'd
still like to bottom line and help set up before work.) I can get in
contact with the speaker. I just want to run it by ya'll. Any objections?
Does it interfere with another event?
Let me know!
Love and Garlic,
Allison

Hello Michelle - I hope all is well. A while back you expressed interest in
helping organize my talk in Richmond. I would like to tour in June and I
would like to speak in Richmond on Friday 6/7. I have included my pitch
below. Please let me know what you think. You can check out some
testimonials about me speaking at my website www.punksinrecovery.com the
website is still being developed however it can give you an idea of what I
am up to. Thank you very much and take good care - Craig

My name is Craig Lewis and I have lived in the Boston area my entire life
and I am now 39 years old. I was very ill for a very long time with various
symptoms of a mental health condition. My life was terrible and all who
knew me knew that I was very unhealthy as well as living a very
dysfunctional life.

I have been involved in the punk scene since I was a teenager and the punk
community has witnessed me out of control of many occasions in the past. I
truly lived a life of suffering and misery. In the past several years I
have been in what we call in the mental health world, 'recovery'. I have
learned excellent coping skills and helpful symptom management methods that
have been highly effective and instrumental in me rejoining society as a
mentally healthy adult. I now work as a mental health peer counselor for a
large mental health agency in Boston as well as the Department of Mental
Health

I am both a punk rock and mental health activist

I have made a remarkable turnaround in my life and I am living a successful
and healthy life.

I have prepared and written an approximately 50 minute long presentation
titled "Punk Rock, Mental Illness and Recovery" and I have presented at the
Democracy Center in Cambridge, at Heaven Street Records in Brooklyn, New
York, Libertalia in Providence, Rhode Island, The Big Idea bookstore in
Pittsburgh, The Wooden Shoe collective in Philadelphia, a collective house
in Washington DC and Collective-A-Go-Go in Worcester, MA, and received a
wonderfully warm and generous response on each occasion.

I believe that there are many people in our community who could benefit
from hearing me speak about my life experience and I want to help my peers
and those in the community at large, gain a healthier perspective on the
real probability of recovery from mental illness and the life improvements
that people can experience who suffer from life impacting symptoms, both
major and minor.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could get back to me at your
convenience to hopefully further discuss and potentially plan this event.

Thank you very much.

Sincerely,
Craig Lewis
