Hey y'all, just checked the Brick e-mail and we got an e-mail from AK Press
about a Tricia Shapiro wanting to speak in Richmond. Here is the e-mail,
lets talk about if this is a possibility!

Hi Flying Brick folks!

I'm the publicist for AK Press and we just published a book by Tricia
Shapiro, which she'll be touring to promote in October and November. The
book is called /Mountain Justice: Homegrown Resistance to Mountaintop
Removal, for the Future of Us All/.

/Mountain Justice/ is Tricia's account as an embedded reporter within
the ranks of organizers and coalfield residents fighting Mountaintop
Removal (MTR) in Appalachia.

We were thinking that the Flying Brick might be interested in hosting
her for an event. She has a speaking events in Philadelphia in late
September and will be coming back down for an event at Firestorm in
Asheville on the 2nd of October. I was thinking that she could make a
stop in Richmond on Friday, October 1st if y'all are able to fit her in.
She will likely be bringing along MTR activists and/or coalfield
residents for most of her speaking engagements.

Her presentation could take any of several forms. She could speak about
MTR, the experiences of local people living with MTR, recent efforts to
end MTR, etc. She could also talk about her "embedded reporter"
experience with Mountain Justice and Climate Ground Zero while writing
this book. If we schedule an event I'll put you in touch with her and
you could sort out the details of what kind of event you'd like to have.

Thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you.
So, every year, we sell Slingshot Organizers to folks who like yearly
planners and junk. I just got an e-mail, saying we still have not payed for
the 2010 organizers we sold. I found the envelope with the money and would
like to ask 2 questions of folks:

1. I think the money needs to get there in a somewhat timely fashion, so I
was hoping people would be ok with me writing a personal check (because that
is safer through the mail than cash) and pocketing the $195 in cash that we
owe them. The rest of the money, $28, Ramey has already put into the Flying
Brick donation jar. If people would like to see the e-mail for the official
amount owed and all that, you can sign onto the riseup e-mail, or I can
print you out a copy.

2. I would like to go ahead and talk about ordering 2011 Slingshot
Organizers for next year. They sell really really well and they are a good
source of extra cash for the Brick. Chop Suey Books also sells them, but
they keep a low stock and from what I understand always direct people to us
for them. So we are also one of only 2 places that carry them in the city,
and they are really popular.

If people feel this is a subject to be saved for the next meeting, that is
fine, but I think Slingshot really needs the money to begin putting their
organizers together. Thanks y'all!
