Hey y'all, there is NO ONE signed up for open hours tomorrow. If anyone
can make it to do some hours ANYTIME between 9am and 4pm, give me a call
ASAP. 804 577 7656.

Also, I received this email about the Slave Burial Ground today:

The VCU parking lot is closed! On Tuesday, May 24, the City of Richmond
will officially take possession of the site of the African Burial
Ground. There will be a ceremony at 10:30 am to begin the removal of the
parking lot asphalt from the graves of the ancestors. Lots of public
officials will participate, but also Ana Edwards of the Defenders'
Sacred Ground Historical Reclamation Project, King Salim Khalfani of the
Virginia State Conference NAACP and Janine Bell of the Elegba Folklore
Society. The Defenders urge all our friends and allies to attend and
celebrate this victory that is the result of nearly 20 years of
community struggle.

Then on Wednesday, May 25, please join us to
support the four members of the Richmond African Burial Ground Community
Organizing Committee (COC) arrested April 12 after successfully
shutting down the VCU parking lot. There will be a 9 am vigil at the
Manchester Courthouse, then the 10 am trial, followed by a brief victory
rally. Please wear white shirts or blouses in a show of solidarity.

And
we encourage you all to stay involved as the memorializing this sacred
ground goes forward. The COC will continue to attend the monthly
meetings of the city's Slave Trail Commission to help ensure community
input into this process.

For more information, contact the Defenders at DefendersFJE@hotmail.com or (804) 644-5834.

--
Always with Solidarity
