<br type="attribution"><div><div style="color:#000;background-color:#fff;font-family:times new roman, new york, times, serif;font-size:12pt"><div>Due to the loose organization of our discussion, I organized this information by specific subject and concerns. </div>
<div>Also- I know everyone involved in this meeting wanted everyone to know that we in no way want to "lead" this movement; and were not suggesting this by holding the meeting. The purpose of this preorganization is to facilitate real organization today in a hit the ground running sort of way- to avoid a loud, unfocused rally-type situation. </div>
<div> </div>
<div>1. Introductions and personal motivations for involvement. </div>
<div> </div>
<div>2. Scott, Stephanie and Claire from the Alliance for Progressive Values- Scott spoke for a moment about government/corporate concerns and corporate personhood. They support this movement, check them out here: <a href="http://apvonline.org/" target="_blank">http://apvonline.org/</a></div>
<div> </div>
<div>3. Wall Street...</div>
<div> I. Backround information about the organization of the General Assembly- signals to facilitate organized discussion</div>
<div> A. Point upwards- talk louder</div>
<div> B. Spirit fingers- indicates you like what you hear</div>
<div> C. Block with arms-absolutely am not okay with current discussion</div>
<div> D. Question- 1 finger up</div>
<div> E. Both fingers engaged in what I can only describe is like gun duel back in forth (for illustrative purposes)- direct response to speaker</div>
<div> F. Point of process- diamond figure made with both hands- Lets refocus the discussion</div>
<div> G. "People's Microphone"- mic check. If you have something really important to say- pertinent news that needs to be made known immediately- </div>
<div> 1. Yell "mic check" and say what you need to say in small phrases and those around you repeat after each phrase loudly so that all can hear.</div>
<div> H. Stacking- orderly discourse, someone keeps track of the order of responses or questions within a working group and calls on people in this order. </div>
<div> 1. Step up step back- favoring minority voice, acknowldging the value of a response not from someone with priveledge</div>
<div> I. Working groups- anyone can form- specific causes and concerns, unifying those with like interests and concerns for discussion.</div>
<div> J. The current General Assembly is using a modified consensus to pass anything- with a 9/10 vote.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>4. Concerns about the Occupy Richmond Movement</div>
<div> I. Timing, Can we organize this in the time frame alloted? Being prepared vs. "missing the boat"</div>
<div> A. It was agreed that the date was set before us and has been printed in the press</div>
<div> B. People want structure- making sure people are always involved, shifts etc</div>
<div> C. Logistics- We need to make sure we have a source for supplies before we commit to occupation</div>
<div> II. Do we want to organize marches or occupy?</div>
<div> III. Keeping it "organic yet organized"</div>
<div> </div>
<div>5. What do we want to use to keep people informed online? tumblr, wordpress etc</div>
<div> I. We would live to avoid agression on social media sites.</div>
<div> A. Open posting vs. Informational page</div>
<div> B. Page vs. group</div>
<div>---> We would like to limit responses via facebook until the first General Assembly and keep nonviolent communication a priority </div>
<div> This language uses "I feel" statements and encourages discussion and communication</div>
<div> II. Uptown Color- we could probably get an ad with them</div>
<div> </div>
<div> </div>
<div> Dates and Times</div>
<div>1. Tonight- Monroe Park 5:30 throught the Students for Social Action</div>
<div>***After meeting- we (and anyone else interested) meet at the corner of laurel and franklin to discuss the Monroe Park meeting. </div>
<div>2. Friday- VCU "Rally" solidarity and awareness stand-in. Noon in front of the music building</div>
<div>3. This weekend- RVA Zine fest- Know your rights training and green slave workshop.</div>
<div>4. Oct 15th- Start the local Movement.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>For tonight, we are going to attempt to start some working groups if this will facilitate productive planning and organizing. These are the groups that we agreed would be necessary to start the process. The persons indicated are going to hold a poster to indicate a group's location. I would again like to stress the fact that none of these people are "in charge" of this process. We just want to organize some direction.</div>
<div>1. Outreach- Josh (who is in surgery right this moment- we will make him a sign)2. Media- Whitney and Adam</div>
<div>3. Infastructure- Tristen</div>
<div>4. Facilitation and Training- Jordan</div>
<div>5. Medical- Jordan is checking with her interested parties</div>
<div>6. Legal- Megan</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Direct concerns for tonight:</div>
<div>I. Welcome- All welcome and all inclusive General Assembly</div>
<div>II. Consensus/facilitation- explanation</div>
<div>III. Oct 15</div>
<div>IV What do we want</div>
<div>V. Working Groups</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Notes:</div>
<div>After the meeting it was suggested we find a monetary cause for action. Some kind of protest for a day where people do not buy things that benefit the folks on wall street, <var></var>etc. Please reply with any ideas and I will email those out to all interested parties. </div>
<div>If you are a point person for the working groups, please come with a large posterboard clearly written with the group name (see above)</div>
<div>I have the list of individual contributions- specific contributions that individuals wanted to make. I will type these up today and foward them out to make sure everyone is on the same page. </div>
<div>We are going to need to set up a paypal so that our community can support and be supported. </div>
<div> </div>
<div>See you all tonight!</div></div></div></div>
