Hey y'all, I don't think I have the energy to book this, but it sounds
really awesome, and I think its about time we had an acoustic show again
anyway. Is there anyway that would be available to bottomline finding some
local acts to play, and promoting this? Hit me up if you can, thanks!
*Hey there! My name’s Maxwell - I've met you folks a few times in my
travels - I played there with Stefan Fink and Rye 'n Clover and with Wood
Spider in the last year! I love your space so much, and right now, I’m
helping to book a tour for two of my best friends in the world, Thorn &
Shout from Maine, and we were hoping you folks over at the Flying Brick
could help out!

Thorn & Shout is a two piece from Maine, who play original chamber folk and
Americana. The duo is composed of Sofia Albam (formerly of Squinch
Owl<http://squinchowl.bandcamp.com/>and Sons
of an Illustrious Father <http://sonsofanillustriousfather.com/>) and
Leonidas Link (of Thy Courage Quail <http://couragequail.bandcamp.com/>).
After going into hiding in the woods somewhere for the last year, they’ve
joined together and are writing music that is far more intentional and
mature than their previous projects. Between the two of them, they play
resonator guitar, five string banjo, viola, foot-powered shruti box,
harmonica, and percussion. They both sing lead and harmony, and might
actually have the best singing voices I’ve ever heard (not exaggerating).
You might like them if you like Brown Bird, Hurray for the Riff Raff,
Black Prairie, Ralph Stanley, medieval folk music, taxidermy,
cryptozoology...*

*We’re working on mixing and mastering a full-length album, but right now,
all they have is a rough demo:
http://thornandshout.bandcamp.com
And here's a couple of videos from one of their first shows:
http://youtu.be/aEl3HBxlujg
http://youtu.be/uPv7tLk_H9U*
*
*
*I know the two of them will love your space - while they've made an
intentional choice to not be overtly political in their lyrical content,
they're both anarchists and primitivists so you guys'll probably get along.
We’re looking for a show in the Richmond area on Tuesday, October 16th We
really hope you can help us out, but if you can’t, we understand - however
if you can help out with names and/or contact info of people who might be
able to, we’d really appreciate it! I haven't had too much experience with
shows in RVA outside of your space to tell the truth haha.

Anyhow, thanks much - let me know what ya think!

Love,
-Maxwell, Sofia & Link*
SWEET STREET SYMPHONY - "Sweet Wood" BQR-011
http://sweetstreetsymphony.bandcamp.com/album/sweet-wood
*This album is the product of the frontman and songs of New Orleans’ own
Sweet Street Symphony coming together with New York’s Wood Spider. NOLA
street jazz mixed with progressive folk punk? Banjo! Drums! Accordion! Saw!
Cello! Stand-up bass! A chorus of kazoos!*

THE ACT OF ESTIMATING AS WORTHLESS - "Amongst These Splintered
Minds//Leaden Thoughts Sing Softly" BQR-010

http://theactofestimatingasworthless.bandcamp.com/

*Act Of plays music that ranges from soft and cute to swells of loud and
triumphant - sort of post rock-infused indie folk. *Two voices, two
guitars, horns, strings, junk drums, stand-up bass and more! **

WOOD SPIDER - "In the Thick of It" BQR-009

http://woodspider.bandcamp.com

Wood Spider’s latest, this time performing with six members across a slew
of instruments. The recordings are gritty and distorted, the band is loud
and aggressive, the songs are dark and angsty. Somewhere between freak
folk and folk punk, with a gothic vibe.
