Hey All,

So, recently, I met these folks from Barcelona who do Anarchist organizing. They are in the states and were hoping to stop by in Richmond for a discussion on December 22nd. I have no capacity to help organize this and I may not be in town but I wanted to pass along the info to see if anyone was interesting in hosting this. If so, I'll pass along contact info.

The talk will be half in Spanish by Mimi (who is awesome!) and half in English by Peter Gelderloos (apparently he's written some books and apparently he used to live in VA and did some problematic things but idk much about it because I was like, 12, when it happened apparently. so yea....).

Multiple anarchist currents in Spain flowed together to make possible the inspiring social revolution of 1936. But in short order, a number of strategic errors weakened the revolution and enabled the Communists to crush it definitively. This important near success and ultimate failure serves as a model for how different anarchist currents can interact for better and for worse.

After outlining the history of the anarchist movement in Spain, two participants will subjectively trace the relationship between different currents of struggle from 1996 to the present, covering the introduction of insurrectionism, the Juventudes Libertarias, the resurgence of the CNT and anarcha-feminism, and the appearance of general strikes organized from the base, neighborhood assemblies, and the plaza occupation movement. The strategic focus will be on what forms of interaction between different currents leads to a strong anarchist space, and what forms have led to major errors or defeats.
