Freeschool Denver presents:
ALCOHOLIC WINTER DRINK SKILLSHARE (and Lunar Eclipse Viewing Party)
Back from last year by popular demand! Now with 100% more Lunar Eclipse!
THIS MONDAY (12.20), 8pm @ the T-House (721 Elati)
*Learn about traditional winter drinks from around the world
*DIY eggnog! Glogg made from leftover sangria!
*Bring your favorite winter drink recipes/ideas to share (wassail, mulled
wine, punches, hot buttered rum, hot chocolate variations, etc.)
*Bring some ingredients if you want (OPTIONAL*) - e.g. eggs, milk, cream,
sugar, cider, booze (esp. cheap red wine, brandy, rum, applejack,
goldschlager, etc.)
*Make some stuff together
If we're all still around at 11:30, we can watch the total lunar eclipse
while sipping the fabulous drinks we just made! Anyone want to give an
impromptu talk on astronomy and eclipses?
Excess beverage can be taken to the Pony Palace Winter Solstice party the
next day. (Which you should all go to too! 6pm! Tuesday the 21st! Pony
Palace! 2842 Josephine St.! Wassailing, morris dancing, bonfire,
mistletoe, potluck, and other ancient solstice traditions!)
Full class description for Alcoholic Winter Drinks Skillshare:
Who can hate on winter, when the short cold days and long colder nights
make for a perfect excuse to hunker down at home, have a bunch of friends
over, and pass around a nice steaming cup of cheer, in whatever form that
may take! In addition to the cold but well-known eggnog and its
lesser-known cousins syllabub and Tom & Jerry, various cultures around the
world have all developed different takes on hot and robust beverages,
including mulled wine (like Glögg from Scandinavia or Glühwein from
Germany), hot cider or wassail, spiked hot chocolate, etc.; even more
obscure (in these parts at least) concoctions such as a drinkable beer
custard called Yard of Flannel, and from Peru a ground-quinoa-based drink
spiked with rum or brandy.
What traditional winter drinks have you and your friends/family passed
down over the years, or even just invented yourself? Ever been intimidated
by the thought of making your own eggnog? Or, have a favorite eggnog or
glögg recipe you've perfected? Get together with other folks for a
fabulous and festive skillshare where we'll swap recipes, and even the
stories behind them. Just in time for anyone who was planning a Winter
Solstice party for the next day!
*Note: Since we want all freeschool classes to be completely free, it is
of course not a requirement to bring ingredients to make drinks out of.
But some one's gotta do it... so, if you do bring stuff and there's enough
of the finished product to take to the Pony Palace Winter Solstice party
the next day, and you were planning on going to that anyway (which you
really should!), you can totally count that as your potluck contribution,
just to be fair to folks who bring stuff. Or you could take some home if
you want. But you really should go to the party, cause it's gonna be
awesome.
Thanks to the T-House for hosting.
Happy Solstice!
