this is the first ive heard of strip searches and it sounds very

Hiya,

We're trying to find out in what situations the police in Scotland strip
search people. It seems like lots and lots of people had to submit to
strip  searches in police custody and certainly the women from Lancaster I
spoke to  are very upset by the experience. They were told that they might
be  concealing weapons, had to strip completely naked and some were told
to bend  over as well. It seems like the stripsearch was used not to look
for weapons  but to intimidate people and it feels worth challenging this.

So here are some questions for you:

Under what circumstances do the police have the right to strip search 
people?

Is there a possibility of complaining/taking legal action on this?

Do you know if there was a blanket use of stripsearching?
