Hi,

A possibly terrible cross-posting on my part, so apologies straight up.

Part of what I do is work at People & Planet. Each year we organise the
UK's largest student conference called Shared Planet. This year's event
is taking place in Manchester at Manchester Uni and Man Met Uni from the
evening of Friday 20th November until the afternoon of Sunday 22nd.
Ticket sales are slow and the dates are looming, so I'm sending this out
to all my networks to raise awareness. Perhaps if you're on another
relevant list or in an applicable group, you could forward this. Thanks.

Shared Planet is the UK’s largest student conference on world poverty,
human rights and the environment. It’s one weekend packed full of
inspiring speakers, practical and informative workshops, debates, films,
stalls and fun.

Shared Planet is open to all young people and students over 16 who want
to find out about the worlds big problems and share the solutions. This
year the event will be held at the University of Manchester and it’s
totally doable on a student budget.

During the two and a half day event there will be panel debates,
speakers, many workshops, films, active campaigns, stalls to look around
and get to know various UK groups, live bands and DJs.

Shared Planet has many speakers coming from around the world, including:

* Eriel Tchekwie Deranger - Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation of Northern
Alberta.
* Melina Laboucan-Massimo - Lubicon Cree First Nation of Northern Alberta.
* Reyna Elizabeth Dominguez Martinez - Union federation CGT, Honduras.
* Rod Palmquist - United Students Against Sweatshops.
* Rosa Curling - solicitor at Leigh Day & Co specialising in Public Law
particularly Judicial Review and Human Rights cases.
* Allegra Stratton - The Guardian
* Ann Pettifer - Advocacy International
* Sajjad Karim MEP - Conservative Party
* Jean Lambert MEP - Labour Party
* Paul Rowan MP - Liberal Democrat Party
* Stacey Dooley, Blood, Sweat and Tee-shirts
* Barbara Crowther, Fair Trade Foundation
* Steve Grinter, International Textile
* Deborah Grayson, Climate Rush
* Sian Berry, Author & Campaigner
* Linda Fairbrother, Journalist
* Sam Maher, Labour Behind the Label
* Jimmy Brannigan, Promoting Poverty Aware Procurement on Campus
* David Leigh, Guardian Journalist
* Barnaby Pace, Campaign Against the Arms Trade
* Philip Moriarty, Professor Nottingham University
* Beth Coldwell, Corporate Watch
* Deborah Doane, Director, WDM
* Mohammed Shamsuddoha, Equity Bangladesh

For more information and to book online, please visit the web site at

Although this is primarily a student event, it is not limited to
students, the more who come and take part the merrier, although we do
need to sell tickets! :) So please do send this invite out to your
various networks and groups and let's see if this year's Shared Planet
can be better than ever.

Thanks and solidarity,

Mike.
