I set up a wordpress site with the new 'network' feature.

It took about an hour - was pretty easy - and might be a good solution for
this. There are loads of good plugins that would be useful.
and it creates good feeds.

*** Why blogs?

We noticed that lots of users copy content from their blogs to
linksunten and
generally this is fine for us. We tried to analyse the reasons why these
users
do this and came up with these ideas:

- Users want an attractive page where only their content is listed.
- Users want to be able to set a banner for campaigns.
- Users want to be able to provide static content like contact details.
- Users want a fancy and short URL for their page than can be spreaded on
leaflets, stickers and posters.

We are currently working on first three points and this emails tries to
address
the last one.

*** Why subdomains for blogs?

The blogs will be customisable views of certain content on linksunten. All
content will be subject to our moderation criteria. The blogs will be
available at linksunten.indymedia.org/blog/<uid> where <uid> is the User
ID,
i.e. a number. We plan to implement some mechanism to have different
names for
the blogs: one automatically generated and one which can be chosen
deliberately. The target URL is technically a good thing but it is neither
fancy nor short.

*** Why these subdomains for blogs?

We thought about a different domain than indymedia.org but we don't
think this
is a good idea. The content is on linksunten.indymedia.org and it
complies to
our moderation criteria which comply to the principles of unity. Thus, the
content should be available from an indymedia.org domain. This would be
advertisement for the network, too. And it would provide further
identification
of the groups using linksunten with the indymedia network.

Both proposed subdomains "liu" and "lunte" are abbreviated versions of
"linksunten". We've chosen "liu" (which means nothing in German) because it
sounds cute and "lunte" (which means "fuse" or "wick") because it
symbolises
triggering of action by means of media articles.

Our request for URL aliases is not meant to bypass the new-imc process
since
it's still the same website. This concern was raised by Jimdog on imc-tech.
Furthermore, it does not set a precedent, as other indymedia websites use
aliases, too. For example, de.indymedia.org uses germany.indymedia.org and
ch.indymedia.org uses switzerland.indymedia.org.

*** What happened until now and what else is planned?

We want to provide the possibility for users to flag any content on
linksunten
which will be listed in a custom wire. We already implemented user
moderation
(i.e. all users or certain roles have one vote for any comment) of comments
but we have not yet turned this feature on.

Our vision is a website with a front page which is merely the private
account
of the moderators and which gives users the utmost autonomy in
moderating the
website that is still compliant to the principles of unity.

We'll publish a communiqué about the status quo of Indymedia linksunten
in the

Wir haben bemerkt, dass viele UserInnen Inhalte von ihren Blogs auf
linksunten
kopieren und das ist prinzipiell auch ok für uns. Wir haben versucht die
Gründe zu verstehen und hatten folgende Ideen:

- UserInnen wollen eine attraktive Seite, auf der nur ihr Inhalt angezeigt
wird.
- UserInnen wollen ein Banner für Kampagnen festlegen können.

- UserInnen wollen eine chice und kurze URL für ihre Seite, die sie auf

*** Warum Subdomains für Blogs?

Die Blogs sollen konfigurierbare Ansichten gewisser Inhalte auf linksunten
sein. Alle Inhalte müssen weiterhin unseren Moderationskriterien
entsprechen.
Die Blogs werden verfügbar sein unter linksunten.indymedia.org/blog/<uid>,
wobei <uid> die User ID ist, also eine Nummer. Wir wollen einen Mechanismus
einbauen, der verschiedene andere automatisch und manuell festgelegte Namen
für die Blogs ermöglicht. Die Ziel-URL ist technisch eine gute Sache,
aber sie
ist weder chic noch kurz.

*** Warum diese Subdomains für Blogs?

Wir haben überlegt, ob eine anderen Domain als indymedia.org in Frage
kommen
könnte, aber wir halten das für keine gute Idee. Der Inhalt auf
linksunten.indymedia.org entspricht unseren Moderationskriterien und diese
entsprechen den Principles of Unity. Deshalb sollte der Inhalt auch unter
einer indymedia.org-Subdomain erreichbar sein. Das wäre auch Werbung für
das
Netzwerk und es würde zu einer weiteren Identifikation der Gruppen, die
linksunten nutzen, mit dem Indymedia-Netzwerk führen.

Die beiden vorgeschlagenenen Subdomains "liu" und "lunte" sind
Abkürzungen von
"linksunten". Wir haben "liu" gewählt, weil es niedlich klingt und "lunte",
weil es das Auslösen von Aktionen durch Medienartikel symbolisieren soll.

Unsere Frage nach URL Aliasen soll nicht den New-IMC-Prozess umgehen, wie
Jimdog auf imc-tech befürchtete, denn es geht weiterhin um dieselbe
Website.
Es ist auch kein Präzedenzfall, da andere Indymedia-Websites auch Aliase
verwenden. Zum Beispiel verwendet de.indymedia.org auch
germany.indymedia.org
und ch.indymedia.org verwendet switzerland.indymedia.org.

*** Was passierte bisher und was ist geplant?

Wir wollen die Möglichkeit schaffen, dass UserInnen jeglichen Inhalt auf
linksunten kennzeichnen können und dieser dann auf einer eigenen Seite
angezeigt wird. Wir haben bereits die UserInnen-Moderation von Kommentaren
programmiert (alle UserInnen oder gewisse Rollen haben je eine Stimme für
jeden Kommentar), aber wir haben dieses Feature noch nicht angeschaltet.

Unsere Vision is eine Website, deren Startseite nur der private Account des
Moderationskollektivs ist und die den UserInnen die größtmögliche
Autonomie in
der Moderation gibt, so dass sie noch immer im Einklang mit den
Principles of
Unity ist.

Indymedia
