Is now a good time to pick this up again ?

With the recent #prism outing is self hosting and distributed social networking the way forward ?

The design decisions behind the (inter)network have been skewed against the margins for so long ( NAT, assymetric bandwidth ... ) 

Why doesn't my home router come with an inbuilt pbx,fileshare,socialweb server ?
