Renter Rights social on Friday the 13th of September 2013

Advice4Renters proudly presents the big Renters Rights Social to be held
on Friday the 13th of September, 7 pm till late in The Albert on 1 Albert
Road, Kilburn London. Thre RSS is part of Advice4Renters campaign to
improve the rights and protections of
private tenants in particular, and to make renting secure and affordable
in general. The event is meant to provide a platform to:

* communicate: share grievances and opinions about individual
tenant-landord-agent relations in particular and housing dreams and
nightmares in general.

* organize: in order to improve things, private tenants and other victims
of the 'property owning nation' nightmare need a lobby, just like the
landlords and mortgage lenders. Let's set one up!

* make plans to act collectively: once problems are identified, solutions
must be proposed and enacted. Individuals are easily ingnored, organized
collectives cannot be ignored so easily

This event will feature (amongst others):

* a chat with the Renters Right Witch:

Bring your tenancy agreement and have it assessed live on stage! Many of
the restrictions a landlord or agent might have written into your contract
may not be legal, nor enforceable. And what about repairs, your deposit,
you name it! The Witch can tell
how much sway your landlord really has in practice, and what to do if
conflict arises.

* tenants anonymous:

'I am a renter in the private sector and these are my sorrows'. Share and
compare them with what others have experienced and hear how they have
solved it. And what if you could change the rules? How would you organize
laws, rules and regulations around
private tenancies, renting in general, and for the hack of it, how would
you want to solve the housing crisis?

* a good overview over how tenants organize in London:

Advice4Renters is just one of many private tenants organisations. People
active for tenants rights in London will be present to tell what their
local groups are doing and planning for the future!

Of course, it's not all work and no play: Music, Food and Drinks will be
provided

The entrance in free (but campaign contributions are of course welcome)

See You There!
