we did some research on e-waste in the UK as part of "we have a
situation!" in 2013; there are some links on this page here:
http://www.wehaveasituation.net/?page_id=413

in one of the links it says that the UK has the potential to recycle
100% of its e-waste, but an estimated 70% goes illegally to toxic dumps
in africa, mainly in ghana. eva ursprung is an austrian artist who has
been to these dumps & photographed them & provided us with some verbatim
information about the people that live & work there (they live literally
on these dump sites) having a life expectancy of 20 & mostly dying of
cancer.
