Another +1 for Nextcloud, will need reasonable tech support if they want to DIY it on some VPS 
https://ownyourbits.com/nextcloudpi/ I'm using a Docker-compose setup as is quick and easy, can do this on any
system/VPS whatever.
Or send them to disroot.org as that is Nextcloud and then some (not sure if they do any own domain/org custom solutions or if that would be needed..)
