So Thanks for the info so far,

Some of it is related to phones :) So that's good.

I should have added in text the context that the attached flyer 
suggested. We are asking people to donate phones to the Makery workshop 
so we can rehome them.

 > If the drive is already encrypted as is the default now on most 
modern phone there is no need to use shredding to wiping tool, just 
losing the private key will work, so in most case just a factory reset. 
Remember to delink accounts before do this.

I'm interested to know why delinking accounts is important here.

First check is the phone encrypted or not
If yes, then a factory reset is enough to securely remove users data.
Iphones and Phones after Android 10 are encrypted by default.
So, it’s important to get access to the phone via password of the user 
to do that.

For older Android / windows smart phones, doing a factory reset and then 
writing data / zeros to the hard drive is an effective method to make 
user data unreadable.
