I have to say I have my doubts about the Open Rights Group, having
relatively recently gone to a talk in Bristol. Although
well-meaning enough and campaigning on the 'right side of the fence'
from a privacy perspective, they do appear to advocate that it's
alright to spy on people for legitamate purposes, just not for
illegitimate purposes. As you rightfully say in your article,
regimes can change and once you've given permission for a state to
spy on people, then it's not always easy to go back when the state
changes its opinion of what is right and what is wrong, what is
lawful and what isn't. Obviously that all said, you can have
whatever legislation in place as you like, but that doesn't stop any
government gone mad and paranoid to retract laws and rights and
enact new ones. As you also say, we're best of being aware of our
data, how we choose to share it and choosing to share as little of
it as possible.<br>
