<p>That makes total sense and I wasn't against that way of doing it,
I just couldn't commit to being a part of it. <br>

So here's a few suggestions for a minimal Bean camp off the top of
my head which is more of a reunion that movement building / full
on knowledge exchange type of thing. <br>

<p>* friend of a friend outreach - this takes the pressure off a lot
in terms of expectation management - drop expectations of who
might turn up to 20-30 - but do a quick straw poll to work out if
that's possible<br>
* no catering, just set up a very minimal kitchen cooking and
washing set up only, so people can DIY, bringing own food and
plates<br>
* no advance payment just registration<br>
* which means you don't need a welcome desk - just keep outlay of
costs super low and collect money on Saturday lunchtime when
everyone's there. collect a per head camping fee for the farm<br>
* no bar unless someone is really up for for running one<br>
* no big structures that require vans, so no second / third space,
just use outside or the barn - which should be possible with less
people<br>
* no music stage, maybe just a programme of music, social justice
films in the barn, and fireside acoustic music, raveoke on request
and with negotiated camp consent :)<br>

<p>So that leaves some jobs that do really need to be done;<br>

<p>* Internet to the barn mission - this could do with help from
people who've done it before I guess <br>
* 4-ways and extension power leads - ask everyone to bring one of
each<br>
* coordinating workshop via open space board on arrival - this is
nice to do as a small team<br>
* Workshop equipment - Seats, chairs or straw-bales - projector
and screen <br>
* sourcing minimal kitchen equipment <br>
* Tarps etc for field shower / washing zone<br>

I've had a try at thinking through how it could be made smaller/beanier,
and Mike's made some suggestions.
The trouble I found was that even if, for example, we have fewer spaces,
someone still needs to form a team that takes responsibility for
sourcing the right stuff to make that number of spaces usable. Even if
we have fewer drinks available, someone still needs to take on buying
them and getting them there. So we still need people to step up and take
on responsibilities.
The template we've started with was chosen because we know that it
works, and every part of it was there for a good reason. That doesn't
mean that it can't be changed, but when it was proposed (in our
13-person off-list discussion) nobody objected or had a better
suggestion at that time.
That doesn't mean it can't be changed though.
How would you change it to make it less scary?

with our organising, if BarnCamp 2019 was to stand a chance of going

The weakest areas at the moment, which could really do with more
person-power, are:
- liaising with the farm
- sourcing & bringing equipment
- arranging night-time entertainment
Remember if you're writing someone else's name down in a group that
they need to have given their permission, and contact details to other
people in the group.
We've set a deadline of lunchtime on Wednesday 24th April. We'll then
re-assess whether BarnCamp can go ahead, even in a reduced form. If we
still haven't seen enough viable working groups form, we'll call it off.
I hope we don't have to...
