1) PSU Social Sustainability Colloquium: An Ethic of Accountability in an
Era of Scarcity: Acting in the Public Interest *Fri, Oct 23*

    Join us to hear a panel of business professionals explore the
responsibilities of business in creating and maintaining sustainable social
systems in an era of         scarcity. We will discuss the idea that the
central role of corporate management in society is facilitating the long
term viability of a democratically governed society grounded in justice,
equality, and trust and supported by sustainable natural, social and
economic systems.

*The benefits and burdens of regional growth and change should be
distributed equitably*
     Metro Council invites you to a series of panel discussions with Myron
Orfield, a nationally recognized expert in the field of metropolitan equity
issues and the director of the Institute on Race and Poverty at the
University of Minnesota. Professor Orfield will join a series of panel
discussions on meeting the Metro Council’s goal of equal distribution of the
benefits and burdens of regional growth. Orfield will present his evaluation
of how the Metro region is addressing issues of equity and how we can
continue to improve. Local elected officials and community leaders will
respond to his evaluations and recommendations.

Sustainability in an Era of Scarcity *Fri, Oct 30
    1-3pm, Portland State University, University Center Building, Room 401M

    Learn about contributing a chapter to PSU's second edited volume on
social sustainability!

*5) Fostering Sustainable Behavior: Introductory Workshop on community-based
social marketing *Mon & Tues, Nov 2 & 3
    9am-4:30pm each day, Portland State University. Building and room will
be emailed to registrants.
    This 2-day workshop provides a comprehensive introduction to
community-based social marketing and how it is being applied throughout the
world to foster sustainable behavior. Learn the 5 steps of community-based
social marketing and explore numerous case studies illustrating its use.
