spate of attacks</a> against the
<a href="http://english.aljazeera.net">English version</a> of the
<a href="http://www.aljazeera.net">Al-Jazeera website</a>
in the form of a <acronym title="Distributed Denial of Service Attack">DDoS</a>
attack has knocked the
<a href="http://uk.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=59685&group=webcast">days
old site</a>
off the internet.
There are some
<a href="http://uk.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=59747&group=webcast">unofficial
Al Jazeerah sites</a> and other english language news sites in the region like
<a href="http://english.daralhayat.com/">Dar Al Hayat</a> are still avaliable,
and the <a href="http://www.indymedia.org/">Global IMC site</a> has a article on
<a href="http://www.indymedia.org/archive/features/2003/03/2003-03.html#8144">Reports
and Resources from Baghdad</a>.

<p>There have been several posts to this site calling for
<a href="http://uk.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=59787&group=webcast">virtual
sit-in's</a>, the use of
<a href="http://uk.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=59763&group=webcast">internet
war tools</a> and for
<a href="http://uk.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=59739&group=webcast">eAction against the freepers</a>
amoung others. This is an issue that <a href="http://www.contrast.org/why_netstrike.php">first
blew up in Italy</a> and has resulted in
<a href="http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2002/2/1/18841/51351">heated debates on
techy sites</a>.</p>
