Hello Folks,
You are warmly invited to take part in this great discussion at the
Star and Shadow Cinema organised with Variant.
It will be an intensive afternoon meeting people involved in similar
projects from around the UK.

It's also a great opportunity to visit the Star and Shadow in
Newcastle. We've been up and running for three months with a full
programme (see www.starandshadow.org.uk ) and the new heating works

This event will take place 'with' not 'for' you, so bring yourself,
your friends, your posters, experiences and ideas.
See details below,
See you there.

‘With’, not ‘For’

Saturday 10th March • 12 noon - 6.00 pm

Half-day discussion event, built around the cultural urgency of
independent & dissident film.

An opportunity to bring together organisations / individuals that
independently work putting on screenings to discuss issues that
affect them, provide a platform to celebrate each others’ activities,
witness some much needed collaborative models, and aid in connecting
groups together that might not otherwise meet to share experiences &
exchange thoughts.

12 noon - 1pm Poster Fair

Everyone is invited to present a poster describing their project
(who, what, why, where, when), and to bring books, flyers, DVDs etc
to give out/exchange. Folk are asked to spend half an hour with your
poster chatting with people about your project, and half an hour
looking at other displays. Also, in the meantime, if folk could post
their URL on the wiki or email us to put it up for others to peruse.

1 - 2pm Welcome & introductory exchange

2.30 - 4pm

Break away groups with volunteer chairs, address areas of interest,
such as:
* peer to peer, peer to many and back again : file sharing & a living
* towards democratic participation, what might we mean by media
access and media access centres?
* disrupting the aesthetics of dissent : outside the comfort zones of
representing protest
* if we are not proactive, the cultural agenda will not be created by
us but marketed at us
* creative ‘independence’ rather than Creative Industries
* from the deconstruction of tools to the deconstruction of content
* 'Social Auditing' : shared core values and interconnections...

(If you would like to chair a group or introduce/expand on an area
that you would like to see focused upon, please get in touch: to be
circulated on the wiki. The final number of groups & areas covered
will depend on take-up on the day.)

4.30pm Plenary where the groups feed back and provide ground for a
full group discussion.

6pm Buffet by Sneha & Bar by Ilana

...food, chat, social...

7pm Band

Please email to let us know if you're coming along, for buffet
numbers; and also if you'd like to come along and could do with
support for accommodation or travel.
