[LAF] Problem with Yahoo!

Hello again everybody, Ian your friendly list maintainer here:-)

I recently sent an email to this list (LAF) about subscriptions that
had been disabled due to "excessive or fatal bounces". Three of the
five addresses were at yahoo.co.uk. Well today, six more subscriptions
were disabled for the same reason, and they were all at yahoo.co.uk:

derekaxion at yahoo.co.uk
adrianrwilliams at yahoo.co.uk
hooper_jackson at yahoo.com
antines2 at yahoo.co.uk
antines at yahoo.co.uk
anamasuta at yahoo.co.uk

I have reactivated these subscriptions as well as all others that had
been disabled due to bouncing, and we will have to see what happens.

Apparently Yahoo! have introduced some draconian new anti-spam
technology, and their SMTP servers have been rejecting emails with a
"554 Message not allowed error". The specific error for LAF emails
that have been rejected is "UP Email not accepted for policy reasons".

I don't know whether Yahoo! is rejecting all email from the LAF
list or just specific ones, or if the rejections were caused by
an error at Yahoo! which has since been corrected. If they are
only rejecting certain messages then it would be good if people
could avoid sending HTML emails to the LAF list (Joy sends HTML
email and I contacted her directly about this a few days ago, but
I don't know whether she received my message because she uses a
Hotmail address and Hotmail has a habit of "dissappearing" email).

So if you have a yahoo.co.uk email address you might not receive
this email, and even if you do, you might not be receiving all LAF
emails and your subscription may be automatically disabled again
as a result. I suggest you take it up with Yahoo! or switch to a
more reliable email provider. But lets hope that it was just a
cock-up at Yahoo! and that things will return to normality.

Ian
