Yes, it is good to remind people that this is an open list. Anybody can
subscribe and there are currently 40 subscribers. The archive of past
messages is publicly accessible. It doesn't make much sense to restrict
archive access to subscribers because anyone can subscribe using a
throwaway address (however, you do have to be subscribed to view the
list of subscribers). Since the archive is publicly accessible then
Google can see it, so messages will come up in Google searches.
This was how we originally agreed to operate the list. The list
description is currently:

That is not strictly true because our meetings are not necessarily
monthly or at those locations (we haven't used Conway Hall for a while
now). I can update this if we can agree on a new text.
