[Note from Joy:
The phrase in the London Pro-Feminist Network Mission
Statement saying, "We too demand justice for rape survivors and find
the current conviction rates abhorrent and unacceptable" does NOT mean
"jail all rapists." Do not allow yourself to be distracted from the subject of
the Mission Statement, which is the social, civil and human rights of women.
The said phrase rather means, "In a society such as we have (where the
majority of infractions of the law are punished) how come when the victims
are mostly women and the offenders mostly men the majority of offenses
go unpunished and, instead, the victims are not believed and/or blamed
and even when the evidence is unassailable the majority of offenders are
'let off'? In our society this anomaly occurs in crimes where the victims
are mostly women and children and the offenders mostly men, such as rape,
child sexual abuse, prostitution. In civil and criminal crimes where many
men are victims, however, crimes are far more often punished; in other words
they are taken seriously.]
