[LAF] Mothers and Fathers

This is a personal description of the previous two meetings of the All Gender
Group. The first meeting dealt with the question of mothers and the last one was
about the fathers.

Both meetings have started with the discussion about our feelings at the time of
the meeting, as has become customary and expected. And then we have jumped
straight into the subject. We went around twice talking about our parents, the
second time was useful if somebody has thought of something to add after their
turn has already passed so that the conversation doesn't trail off into a
different subject making it impossible to make that particular contribution. A
lot of private and personal issues were discussed, therefore i won't be
mentioning any specifics, but we did touch on the connection between the gender
identity and the upbringing of us as children.

One of the subjects that came up in both meetings was if we are looking for
somebody as a partner who resembles or is an anti-thesis of one of our parents,
and in general the feeling was that more likely explanation is that the parent
is just another person in our lives, however, the one who happened to influence
us the first, therefore although there is a connection between their positive
characteristics and what we look for in others as well as their negative traits
and what we try to avoid, that would be true even with somebody who isn't a parent.

The interesting thing was that people seem to have found it much easier on
average to talk about fathers than about mothers. Some stated that this is
because of the intimacy and the personal nature of "the mother subject".

The next meeting of All Gender Group is at London Active Resource Centre at 4pm
this sunday the 22nd of February. The topic is "Romance" (as in relationship).
