[LAF] Re Re Union Whatever happened to Password Protection ?

An email purporting to come from  me to this list was sent out 
by a site called re union  this happened because I made the mistake of opening a simalar email I received from someone I knew which enables them to somehow get into your account and send an email in your name to everyone in your address book, how is this possible? whats the point of password security ?
