Hi, people,

On Saturday i have finally managed to participate in the World Naked Bike ride,
the yearly event involving (surprise!) riding on the bicycle in the nude world wide.

It was quite an experience, being a part of the huge crowd of naked people
riding through the centre of London, the crowd was so large that when i was at
the end of the ride i could not see where the beginning was and personally i
estimate the turn-out to be more than 1000, but then again maybe i'm doing the
normal activist thing and overstating how many people have come (i'm sure police
would report the numbers in dozens).

In general everything was awesome. People participating were very open, nice,
and happy. Individuals of all different ilk came around from the Greater London
region to ride in opposition of oil dependency and to support freedom; i was
very surprised just how comfortable i felt riding with them.

There were a couple of negative moments through the ride which need to be
mentioned. Apparently some by-standers were running out and grabbing some women
(i have not seen this myself), it's really sad how nudity is so shocking in our
society that people lose themselves when they see it. Also the stewards were
often quite unhelpful and rather than helping the riders attempted to play the
police. On a few occasions i saw some riders hurting themselves (none seriously)
by bumping into each other or falling down (or both); at this time rather than
stopping those riding behind in order to avoid the injury stewards would join
the police in verbally pushing everybody forward (sometimes when a person was
actually laying on the ground in front of them). I suppose the old truism "power
corrupts" is not any less relevant when the person has no clothes on.

Regardless of those negatives, i am looking forward to the future years, and
only hope that it will be bigger and better.
