The Current Crisis - A Challenge to the Utopianism in Anarchism

Tim Pendry, former organiser of the Grassroots Alliance within the Labour Party and now independent, argues that the current crisis offers a unique opportunity for anarchist ideas to enter the mainstream as a much wider libertarian challenge to a State proven to be greedy and incompetent.

Unfortunately, many 'anarchists' are still navel-gazers with a view of the human condition that is out-dated. With centralised state socialism becoming discredited even in its reform model, anarchism could lose the moment. Tim challenges anarchists to create new political strategies alongside their direct action successes.

Steve
I will contact Housmans to see if we can do 12th June
If not I suggest we keep the date and find an alternative venue
perhaps LARC ?
We need to weave what he has given us into a title and a few words of abstract

Okay.

Here's what I got from Speaker today..

Yes, I can confirm that June 12th is pencilled in as free and I'll prepare
some thoughts soon.

I thought a challenge to 'utopian' anarchism and its vision of human
nature might be integrated with a positive view of how anarchism as a political
ideology would provide the natural leading edge for the widespread revolt
against incompetent political elites in Europe.

Sounds interesting

Ok, I'll go with that ... and I can add the practical experience of trying
to democratise the Labour Party against the machinery of the trades unions ...
