We've unearthed some <BR>real<BR>working class gems from the past and present. Learn about the squatting<BR>movement in the years just after the Second World War, and see how <BR>effective<BR>the mass London tenants rebellion was in the late 1960s. Britain's most<BR>famous TV film-maker, Nick Broomfield, has personally donated two of <BR>his<BR>earliest features: Behind the Rent Strike and Who Cares? Both of these <BR>short<BR>films date from mid-70s and
concern how tenants bitterly responded to <BR>new<BR>housing development plans (sound familiar?!).<BR>Naomi Rodriguez, director of All That Glitters, will show her film and<BR>deliver an introduction. Weaving between interviews concerning the <BR>Docklands<BR>developments of the 1980s, and those concerned with Olympic effects on <BR>East<BR>London, the film implies that past trends in the Docklands and erosion <BR>of<BR>public spaces, skyrocketing property prices; total disregard for the <BR>working<BR>class; increased unemployment; the proliferation of luxury housing, <BR>shops,<BR>and new businesses coupled with the destruction of their non-luxury<BR>counterparts are likely to be repeated in Stratford and the Lea Valley.<BR>Spectacle Productions are an independent television production company<BR>specialising in documentary and community-led investigative journalism.<BR>Spectacle's Mark Saunders will be on hand to show clips from and talk <BR>about<BR>his latest project with local
residents in southeast London which <BR>focuses on<BR>the effects of gentrification as it sweeps south. David Panos and Ben<BR>Seymour made their short film the London Particular a few years ago.<BR>Focusing on Britain's gentrification frontline, Shoreditch, it's a film<BR>essay about regeneration and insidious social change on the borders of <BR>the<BR>City.
