Hello, as promised but a bit late (due to extreme
painting), the minutes of the first proper gig space
collective meeting.
Gig Space collective meeting: 30 August 2005
H,N,P, K present
(1) Monday Matilda update report: scraped mould and
old paint off the walls; paint collected from Scrap
and good walls primed. Discussion of how to tackle the
damp external walls (PVA glue + tin foil and paper
versus masonry paint)
(2) Materials needed: wood needs to be collected for
building the stage, tin foil, nails.
(3) Fire exit: need to improve the fire exit - new and
double doors required?
(4) Discussion of gig space proposal at Matilda
meeting: collective circulated a proposal on the list
asking for consensus on the purpose/vision of the
gig/party space. Collective propose that the space is
run under a DIY ethic, supporting grass roots,
independent creativity and not to promote major label,
corporate 'products'. [Consensus to the proposal
subsequently achieved at the meeting].
(5) Design of the space: colour scheme to be grey and
red walls, with red floor paint; KA & K to design 2
murals; quote on one wall to be removed and then
redone in accordance with the colour scheme. KA to
come down to the space on Tuesday to discuss designs
and materials.
(6) Art collective mural proposal: to discuss with the
art collective to see if other walls than those of the
main gig space could be used instead, so that the main
space is one coherent design/vibe. Preference for
minimal use of murals in the main gig space.
(7) Approaching Sheffield gig collectives: agreed to
start putting word out to people who book gigs about
the space.
(8) Information: need to create space on wiki for info
about the gig/party space, including 'blue print' that
has been developed for using Matilda's space and
contact details.
(9) Collective meetings: quick meetings to take place
at 7pm on Mondays prior to the main Matilda meeting.
(10) Work days: continue this week and take a break
saturday and sunday.
