*'This house believes that animal testing is detrimental to
human health and should be abolished.*' The debate will feature Dr Jarrod
Bailey, the Scientific Director of Europeans for Medical Progress (EMP)
proposing, and Kristina Cook, representative of Pro-test opposing.

The debate organised by Sheffield University Debating Society and Sheffield
University
Animal Rights Society. It will be held in *Lecture Theatre 3 of the Arts
Tower, Sheffield *
*University*, and is open to all. *Wednesday 17th May at 7pm*. There will
also be food available.

This is an important and exciting debate between EMP, the organisation
at the forefront of challenging animal testing from a medical
standpoint, and Pro-Test, who recently formed to support animal testing,
and particularly the building of the new Oxford University animal lab.
Hopefully there will be newspaper and local radio coverage. *Non-students
will be more than welcome.*

It would be good to have as many of you there as possible. The debate
will purely focus on the scientific, not ethical issues. Personally, I
would always be opposed to animal testing, even if it was shown to benefit
humans. However, many people don't realise that as well as being morally
wrong, animal testing is bad science and is bad for humans as well as
animals.

Please tell as many people as you can about the debate, and in
particular your friends who belong to science/medical departments.
Hope to see you there!
