[Minorcompositions] CERFI Events in London This Week

This week CERFI: Analysis Everywhere

events – three different settings for thinking about what it might mean 
to take analysis outside the clinic and into institutions, architecture, 
research, organising and collective life. Our strongest recommendation: 
Friday 18 September at Freedom Books

Susana Caló and Godofredo Enes Pereira will be there to discuss the book 
and CERFI’s experiments with militant research, institutional analysis, 
collective organisation and publishing. It’s free, it’s Friday night,

An evening symposium with Susana and Godofredo, CERFI founding member

Adrian Lahoud. In-person tickets are now sold out, but online places

What does it mean to describe capitalism as a totality? If capital 
appears to have absorbed ever more of social life, shaping not only work 
but subjectivity, technology, culture and everyday existence, how do we 
avoid turning this diagnosis into a story in which capitalism has become 
so complete that meaningful antagonism appears impossible?

Abolishing Capitalist Totality: What Is to Be Done Under Real 
Subsumption?, edited by Anthony Iles and Mattin, brings together more 
than a decade of arguments around subsumption, communisation, abolition 
and the limits of capitalist power. Beginning from a workshop convened 
in Bilbao in 2014, the project asks how Marx's concept of subsumption 
might help us understand the concrete processes through which capital 
reorganises social life, while resisting fatalistic accounts of 
capitalism as an all-encompassing system without an outside.

For this online conversation, Mattin and Anthony Iles are joined by 
contributors Dimitra Kotouza and Ray Brassier to revisit these questions 
in the present. What does the language of totality illuminate, and what 
might it obscure? What remains irreducible to capital's abstractions? 
How might different understandings of subsumption change what we think 
abolition requires? And if capitalist totality is not a seamless whole 
but a contradictory ensemble of processes, relations and struggles, what 
possibilities does that open for acting within, against and beyond it?
