Please refer to the attached map.
*Stage 1*
A working bee is planned with InterAction group for Monday, November 16th.
The plan is to place golden cypress sleepers along the current garden beds.
There will be a redesign to create more pathways for greater access. Two new
garden beds will be created on the chip bark area, on the northern location.
The native grasses will be potted and relocated to join the others on the
northern side. We request compost and top soil for the new garden beds. The
sleepers will be 200mm high x 50mm wide and different lengths.
We have requested the sleepers be delivered on Thursday 12th Nov or Friday
13th November.
A pond will be placed in bed C2, an arbor will cross both B2 and C2. The
arbor will be made out of bamboo as a climbing frame. Climbing beans, cucumber
and gourds will be planted there. If time allows, a small herb spiral will
be constructed at the southern end of the garden. The new garden sign will
be placed against the cypress tree on the southern entrance. New soaker
hoses will be purchased for the garden bed. Pea straw and lucerne hay will
be used as mulch.
A temporary pathway will be created across the garden bed to allow access to
the garden.
A gazebo and community space is planned on the northern side, this will not
be constructed in stage 1.
We would like to request another tap be placed in the central area between
beds B1 and C1.
We would like to request 2 cubic metres of compost and 5 cubic metres of top
soil for the garden beds. This will cover generally 5cm of compost and 10cm
of top soil. The new garden beds will be 20cm high and most of the current
top soil only 10cm high. The new garden beds E1 and E2 will be raised to
20cm, this has been included in the calculation.
We request the tap on the southern corner be connected to the water tank
under the medicine building, when possible.
*Master plan*
The garden master plan will use all the garden beds east of the cypress
trees. There will be fruit trees planted in the current garden. The current
garden beds will be raised to two sleeper high, to be 40cm high.
There will be new garden beds on the western side to grow main crops on a
larger scale for the Whole Food restaurant, these may include potatoes,
carrots, capsicum, pumpkin, sweet potatoes and others. The gazebo and
community area will be constructed, with a space for a portable BBQ against
the eastern wall. An earth oven will be built for the cooking of pizza and
bread. An outside sink will be located on the southern side to prepare
vegetables for Whole Food restaurant. Another sink will be inside to prepare
food. A hothouse will be located on the northern side for growing seedlings
during winter. This can be converted into a summer shade house. A larger
herb spiral will south of the hothouse.
There will be storage shed against the campus centre in the triangle area,
on the corner.
It is proposed to have more taps to be able to water the garden.
A garden management plan is current been prepared for the garden. This will
include the background, benefits of the garden to students and a calendar of
operation for each month. A draft will be made available for feedback, when
it is completed early next year.
*The development stages are mentioned below.*
Stage 1
Upgrade current garden beds with sleepers. Connect extra tap in the central
area. Taps connected to water tanks under the medicine buildings.
Stage 2
Upgrade garden beds to two sleeper high, more compost and top soil.
Construct tool storage shed against campus centre. Construct gazebo
community space, hothouse and larger herb spiral.
Stage 3
