Hey guys,
We're planning on having a couple of working bees on the weekend (hopefully
this will be more convenient for a lot more people) to finally finish off
setting up the Monash Community garden and get everything planted (many of
the plants in pots really need to be put in the garden before they die
off!).
The plan is to have a working bee on Saturday (i.e. tomorrow the 28th!) and
and on Sunday (29 November). The proposed times are 5:30pm to 7:30pm and
then food and chatter till however long people wanna stick around.
During the gardening there will be workshops on transplanting native
grasses, setting up a no-dig vegetable garden as well as planting seedlings
and plants in newly established gardens.
Weather permitting- we will be cooking up a storm from about 7.30pm onwards.
There will be a workshop on how to set-up an earth stove (which functions
just like a standard metal electric or gas stove at home, however there is
no metal, gas or electricity involved! Instead you can dig up the earth
stove on just about any piece of land [including your back/frontyard] in
15-20 minutes and then use wood as fuel, which you can usually get from
dead/burnable branches of trees close-by).
I will be bringing some potatoes, onions, spices, eggs, vegetable oil and a
couple of fry pans. I will be happy to show people how to make 'Aalu Anda'
(eggs & potatoes, however eggs are not an essential ingredient and can be
taken out if you are a vegan), a very simple and easy-to-make dish that is
commonly eaten in India. And if people are interested we can also do a small
workshop on how to make flat bread fresh of the earth stove! (I will be
bringing along some flour too!).
The food I bring although it will probably be enough so that everyone can
have a taste however it will probably not be enough so that anyone can have
a full stomach.
So it would be great if as many as people as possible were able to bring
along a plate of food to share (it doesn't have to be much but as long as
everyone brings a little bit we will have plenty of food between us!). This
would really help create a community, fun, loving, caring and sharing
atmosphere! which is after all what we are all about!
Also please feel free to bring in some raw ingredients if you like and we
can cook them at the earth stove at the garden (the earth stove can
basically cook anything that a gas stove can).
Look forward to seeing you there and having a bloody fantastic evening-
gardening, cooking and eating together!
see you then,
ali
:)
P.S. Please reply to myself (amajokah at gmail.com) or to the list to let us
know if you can make it and also if you are able to bring any food along.
Thanks.
