[MonashCommunityGarden] sleepers & toxicity

So it seems that railway
sleepers<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Railroad_tie#Wooden>are often
treated with toxic chemicals to prevent rotting, termites, etc;
and there's also all the oils and stuff from the trains in the case of used
sleepers.

What are the options for building the raised beds?

Are some used sleepers known to be untreated?

What about other reclaimed wooden planks, like shown
here<http://stonehead.wordpress.com/2008/04/02/maintaining-the-raised-beds/>?
There seem to be a few places
nearby<http://www.ecodirectory.com.au/index.php/vic/>that would sell
such materials.
