Well then.. that narrows down the problem: non-members are permitted to
post messages to the list (mkli.mm at gmail.com is a non-member).

To fix that, someone who is an admin needs to log into the admin
interface<https://lists.aktivix.org/mailman/admin/monashcommunitygarden>and
change some settings:

In [ Privacy Options > Sender Filters ] find [ generic_nonmember_action ] and
set it to something other than "accept". I think "hold" is best, because it
lets the moderator approve the odd message from someone nice who isn't on
the list or is posting from the wrong address, but if there's way too much
spam for the moderators to handle then the next best is "reject" because
then nice people know their message didn't get through.

It's also worth checking that in [ Privacy Options > Subscription Rules ]that [
subscribe_policy ] is set to "require approval", to help prevent spambots
subscribing themselves.
