"Thousands of failed Zimbabwean asylum seekers could be sent home after the home
secretary, John Reid, today won the right to deport them.
The asylum and immigration tribunal reversed an earlier decision and ruled
Zimbabweans did not automatically face "a real risk of being subjected to
persecution or serious ill-treatment" if returned to Robert Mugabe's regime. 

Last October the AIT threw the government's deportation policy into doubt after
a failed asylum seeker, who can be identified only as AA, won his appeal
against the home secretary. But that decision has been reconsidered after the
court of appeal ruled in April that the tribunal had "erred in law" in making
its initial decision."
