French defy state child snatchers
Mothers' network hides young immigrants to keep them safe from
deportation by Sarkozy
All over France this week similar scenes will be repeated as a national
network of volunteers mobilises. According to Jean-Michel Delabre, an
activist with Education sans Frontières (ESF), the battle is about more
than just the future of several thousand youngsters. 'This is a fight
for the soul of France and for the sort of society we want to live in,'
he told The Observer. 'Do we want our country to be tolerant and
multicultural? Or xenophobic and closed?'

Hundreds of children are slaves in UK, say charities
Charities want more resources to tackle the problem and say that a
national strategy is needed. Chief among their demands is for Britain to
ratify the European Convention against Trafficking in Human Beings. This
would mean that children would be allowed to stay in the UK and recover,
rather than simply being shipped back from where they were sent.

Hundreds of children sold into slavery in UK
The ECPAT research has identified suspected victims in all but one of 33
London boroughs.
In the consultation document, passed to The Sunday Telegraph, the
charities say there are "no specific support services" for victims of
child trafficking and they accuse the Government of using "an
unsympathetic and punitive asylum process" to treat them as illegal
immigrants rather than victims.

08: Keep Our Streets Safe From Bogus Journalists!

Keep Our Streets Safe From Bogus Journalists!

Demonstrate Outside The News Of The World This Sunday - 11th June At
11am, 1 Virginia Street
(off The Highway, nearest tube Tower Hill - District & Circle, or DLR
Tower Gateway)

Last Sunday the News of the World publically boasted about how they had
kidnapped 70 migrants in an article 'We catch 2 bus loads of illegal
immigrants'. They explain how their undercover journalist had gone out
pretended to be taking people to jobs, picked migrants up in a bus and
delivered them to Colnbrook detention centre. The objective was,
apparently, to expose the Home Office's failure to deal with 'illegal
immigrants'.

It is terrifying to know that gutter journalists can go around the
streets as vigilante immigration officers, wrecking people's lives,
livelihoods, and perhaps even sending them to their death. If they can
get away with this, which group of people is next on their hitlist to be
lifted off the streets.

This culmination of a frenzy of bogus journalism directed at refugees
and migrants over the last few months. Day after day the papers have
had an orchestrated frenzy around 'foreign' criminals and 'illegal
immigrants' setting the political agenda.

These 'news'papers weep crocodile tears about racist attacks and
murders but they create the vicious racist atmosphere which encourages
these things to happen. Is it any wonder that the British National
Party wins seats when these papers are pushing the government to attack
refugees and migrants even more than they are now?

Lets show these merchants of hate what we think of them. Bring
yourselves, Bring your friends, Bring placards, Bring anything that
makes lots of noise.

Be There!

05: Black v Asian

Linda Bellos looks at the politics of colour and categories. The term
'black, Asian and minority ethnic', or BAME, is being used increasingly

'black' as a unifying term of colour and a shared experience of racism.
She also links the issue to wider questions about ethnic monitoring.
