14: Just.Fair. sleepout in Parliament Square - 19 Feb

Monday 19 February the Refugee Council is organising the first event: a
Just.Fair. sleepout in Parliament Square. They are looking for a hardy
bunch of committed campaigners who will spend a night on a historic site
of protest opposite Parliament.

The legal sleepout will highlight to the public, politicians and the
media that destitute refused asylum seekers have no home and that
destitution is not working as a policy. People refused asylum are not
leaving the UK - they are here and they are homeless and hungry.

By demonstrating right outside the House of Commons we want to get a
message directly to MPs. Each campaigner's MP will be lobbied to come
out to Parliament Square and find out about the Just.Fair. campaign. The
date is significant - the quarterly Home Office asylum statistics are
published on 20 February. We want to remind people about a much more
important figure: the people who are refused asylum and who will be
homeless that night.

There are plenty of ways for campaigners to get involved in the
Just.Fair. sleepout: We need a core team who can arrive with their warm
clothes and a sleeping bag (covers to keep you dry will be supplied).
But a small army of helpers on short shifts is also needed during the
evening on Monday and from early morning on the Tuesday.

It can't be done without you, so please contact
justfair at refugeecouncil.org.uk
