Sorry for the short notice. 3rd G8 2007 UK-Mobilisation Meeting! THURSDAY 3rd MAY 6pm-10pm @ RAMPARTS SOCIAL CENTRE - EAST LONDON >From 6-8 June 2007, the G8 Summit ? the meeting of the heads of state and government of the USA, Canada, Japan, Great Britain, France, Italy, Germany and Russia ? are planning on meeting in Germany. But we're gonna shut em down...... Following on from a meeting in Reading in March, we will hold a 3nd meeting to discuss the UK G8 Mobilisation for 2007. This will be hosted in London, at the RampART Creative Social Centre, 15 Rampart Street, off Commercial Road, London, E1 2LA. Here's a map: http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&search_result=&db=pc&keepicon=true?=&pc=E12LA&advanced=&client=public&addr2=&quicksearch=E1%202LA&addr3=&addr1= How to get there? Public Transport Nearest tube stops are Whitechapel, Aldgate East and Shadwell (which includes the DLR and the East London Line). The distance between them and Rampart is about the same. It takes 5-10 minutes to walk to/from those stations. Shadwell DLR has no barriers or ticket inspectors. Bus routes that stop just at the top of Rampart Street on Commerical Road include 15 and 115. You can also get the 100 to nearby Shadwell which comes from South London. On Whitechapel High Street (about 5 mins walk away), you have the number 25 (the ?free? bendy bus) and the 205 among others. By Car Why? But yes, Ramparts is outside of the Congestion Zone and parking is not a problem in the evenings or at weekends. The major roads to navigate by are the A11 (Whitechapel Road) and the A13 (Commerical Road). The A13 comes direct from the M25 way out east. If you are coming from any other direction other than from the east then you will probably want to use the circular. From South of the river that would mean the A100 over Tower Bridge. And from the North it would be the A501 or perhaps the A10. Your final aim would be to find the junction with New Road which joins both the A11 and the A13. You should be able to figure out the rest from the instructions above. www.rampart.co.nr Accommodation is available. Police forces searched the "Rote Flora" in Hamburg as well as parts of the "Bethanien" in Berlin, both places planned to be decentralised convergence spaces for the G8 protest. We want to show solidarity with the German movement and express our right to protest against the upcoming G8 in june. Friday May 11, 6pm Kempinski Courthouse Hotel 19-21 Great Marlborough St, London, W1F 7HT The German police have used the terrorist suspicion law (so-called section "129a") to raid and search private homes and social centres all over Germany under the suspicion of "building a terrorist network to prevent the G8 from happening". Obviously the mobilisation against the G8 is augmenting and authorities are getting more and more nervous. Dozens of computers have been seized. Police also raided the site of the German alternative internet provider so36.net to seize all email data on their servers. The website gipfelsoli.org, one of the main mobilisation pages against the G8, is currently down because of the raid. Why at Kempinski London? Kempinski is the Hotel Group which hosts the G8 Summit in 2007. Kempinski has privatised large parts of the village and the beaches of Heiligendamm, the town where the G8 meeting will take place, making the area a no-go area even for local people. By choosing the symbolic site of the Kempinski Hotel in London we will protest against the upcoming G8 in Germany and the capitalist system it represents. There were a few things we thought we should feedback to this list. And lo and behold, here they are! re. the camp The idea was had a while back to hold a no borders camp in the uk, near gatwick in late september. We were roughly thinking of Wed 19th - Sun 24th Sept though this isn't finalised yet. It would be good to get other groups' thoughts on this plan, since it needs to be a a group effort if it's going to be a success. Do we think it's a good idea? can you help? Do the dates clash with a stop the war demo? :) so yes, your thoughts are good but unfortunately we also need dosh, quite a lot of it in fact. Are there any other groups who could provide, raise, or steal some money :) We're looking into getting some funding possibly, and doing gigs and stuff but other ideas are very welcome! Also, a call out and publicity postcard for this is on its way - it would be great if people could contribute ideas and suggestions. We'll put the drafts on the wiki (www.makebordershistory.org) so then we can sort it all out collaboratively like. Gatwick detention centre we were thinking that it would be good to try and get more coverage in the press about detention centres generally, in the run up to stopping this one form being built (and the new one they want to build in norwich). It'd be good to try and push the story that the bastards not only have these ones but they are building more. So, we wondered whether people could be keeping an eye out for media stories which they can send letters about, or things that they can press release out to places. Local press is great, since they might care a bit more about public opinion around a detention centre than they do generally, and in general a good thing for people to be more aware of what cruelty exists on their doorstep blah blah. also on the wiki we've put up some embryonic research into the gatwick thingy. It would be great if anyone has any time could do some research into the whole thing - e.g. what other companies have subcontracts for the building work. In particular it would be good to find out which company will get the contract to operate the prison. I've put the web links to the companies who already run others in the uk - it'd be good to keep a watch on them since they will proudly press release their win. We need to be finding leads on where to go with all this but not many people have much time to devote to it. I'm sure not many in other groups do either but if we all do a little bit that's more than no one doing nothing blah blah. that's quite enough of my badgering! thanks, becca From phunkee at riseup.net Tue May 8 17:46:31 2007 From: phunkee at riseup.net (phunkee) Date: Tue, 08 May 2007 18:46:31 +0100 Subject: [noborders-brum] Indymedia Oaxaca Info-night comes to Birmingham: May 16th Message-ID: <4640B777.4040209@riseup.net> *_Indymedia Oaxaca Info-night comes to Birmingham_* An IndyOaxaca compa?ero who is indigenous to the mixe territory of Oaxaca and an avid community radio, video and print and independent media activist with Indymedia Oaxaca is coming to talk and show films in Birmingham on *Wednesday 16th May @ Rooty Frooty at Digbeth's Custard Factory from 7pm - 9pm. * 2006 was a tumultuous year in Mexico and there is still no end in sight. Above stands a highly contested presidential election and from below there is a Zapatista campaign to focus the grassroots, anti-capitalist Left all over the country. The annual teachers strike in the south-eastern Mexican city of Oaxaca and the subsequent movement protests became the largest popular rebellion in over a decade. Then, hundreds of illegal detentions, disappearances and injuries, and at least eighteen documented deaths followed. Read more about the Oaxaca Uprising pages on Indymedia UK: http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/actions/2006/oaxaca/ In Oaxaca, a broad-based movement to unseat an unpopular and corrupt governor turned into a grassroots uprising for direct democracy. For months, hundreds of residents in the half million people City and surrounding area took part in and maintained more than 1,000 street barricades, protest camps, occupations of government buildings as well as the literal takeover of mainstream media outlets. Mexico's federal government later sent in thousands of militarized police to crack down on the popular uprising and prop up the regime of the status quo. Taking part in all of these events is a lively independent media movement . . . We will screen short films and hear straight from the horse's mouth the reasons behind last year's events in Oaxaca, bad governments, land struggles, exploitation, migration, the destruction of the environment, the continuing annihilation of indigenous cultures, ways of life and in mexico, their eternal refusal to conveniently make way to projects like the Plan Puebla Panama and disappear for the benefit of the rich and for ?the North?. We will look at what this means, to be indigenous, to be autonomous, to be rebellious, to organize and resist. Resist dams, roads and agribusiness, biodiesel plantations or corporate T.V. We will update on the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN) campaign of continuing resistance, and look into European and UK involvement in the area, dissect it and draw parallels with local plans and struggles, community organisation and independent media. We expect people's involvement and hopefully we'll get to look inside our own reality, actions and beyond... http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/regions/birmingham/2007/05/370028.html From frank.corrigan at frankslist.info Fri May 11 08:01:37 2007 From: frank.corrigan at frankslist.info (Frank's List) Date: Fri, 11 May 2007 10:01:37 +0200 Subject: [noborders-brum] 'Sanctuary Movement, Worker Justice, refuse to co-operate' - 10 May 07 - 100 items (approx) Message-ID: 'Sanctuary Movement, Worker Justice, refuse to co-operate' Sent 11 May 07 - 100 items (approx) ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Frank's List the asylum, immigration, conflict and rights information gateway Sign up, Send, Search and Suggest ?
