... ready or not.

Yes, the man responsible for such gems as "The trouble with the French is that they have no word for entrepreneur" has once again been elected to America's top job and will reign over the White House (and, therefore, the world) for another term.

So perhaps you'd like to know a little more about the man who will dominate international politics for the next four years, and about the team who helped him get there?

George W. Bush

Arrested three times for different offences, and escaped a US$800,000 charge over the trading of oil shares courtesy of an investigator (appointed by his father) who claimed that despite looking everywhere he just couldn't find enough evidence to prosecute.

Dick Cheney

Sold US$35 million of his shares when chief executive of engineering company Halliburton after accounting changes allegedly inflated the share price by US$100 million. The shares later collapsed. Halliburton are now under investigation over a multi-billion no-bid contract in Iraq. Appointed head of the Republican committee to find a vice-presidential candidate, he duly found one: himself.

Thomas White

Former vice-chairman of Enron Energy Services. While he was in the job, Enron rigged and exploited California's electricity market, causing chaos, power cuts and unemployment, in what the Senate investigator called 'a mob-style protection racket.' Subsequently appointed Secretary of the US Army.

Larry Thompson

Headed up the audit and compliance committee of Providian. This insurance firm was forced to pay US$300 million (the largest fine ever doled out by the Comptroller of the Currency) in fines and compensation after swindling its investors, the frail and elderly, of most of their savings. Larry later faced accusations of insider trading, after selling US $4 million of Providian stock just before the share price dropped. Went on to become George Bush's fraud buster, charged with restoring faith in American business ethics.

... and they say Americans don't do irony?!
