actions of

that the eventual shakeout in this space will have a negative impact.</span><br
style="color: rgb(51, 153, 153);">
<br style="color: rgb(51, 153, 153);">
<span style="color: rgb(51, 153, 153);"><big

has been around since <span style="color: rgb(204, 0, 0);">Usenet </span>and

</big><span style="color: rgb(51, 153, 153);"><big
style="color: rgb(204, 0, 0);">Mobile everything.</big>
Here is another concept that has been in play since the
mid-1990s. It
cannot trigger a collapse since it will never fully get off the ground,
although the <span style="color: rgb(204, 0, 0);"><big>iPhone mania</big>
</span>may be a bad sign of something.</span><br
style="color: rgb(51, 153, 153);">

style="color: rgb(204, 0, 0);">Ad-leveraged search.</big>
Most search engines will fail as a matter of course. This segment
of
the industry is mundane. It would be affected by a crash but not
trigger one.</span><br style="color: rgb(51, 153, 153);">

style="color: rgb(204, 0, 0);">Widgets and toolbars.</big>
I cannot see the widget scene going crazy, and the jury is still out on
toolbars. But there is the potential for nuttiness, I
think. The
problem here is that these things tend to be dependent on the stability
of operating systems and browsers. One bad operating-system patch
and
suddenly nothing works.</span><br style="color: rgb(51, 153, 153);">

style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(102, 51, 255); font-family: Arial;">"He attends deaths. He's pretty insistent on it."</span>
<span style="font-family: Arial;">In the 2 years since Oscar was adopted into the dementia unit of the <span
style="font-style: italic;">Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre</span> in Providence he has maintained close vigil over the deaths of more than 25 patients, nursing staff and doctors say.</span>
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Dr Dosa has had an essay on Oscar published yesterday in <span
style="font-style: italic;">The New England Journal of Medicine.</span></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Like any feline, Oscar gives a hefty portion of his day to sleep. He likes to doze on stacks of patient reports. Or on the desk at the nurses' station. Or in the linen closet.</span>
<span style="font-family: Arial;">When awake, however, the mixed-breed cat shows a solemn dedication to duty, making regular <span
style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(102, 51, 255);">"inspection"</span> rounds of the unit, sauntering in and out of patient rooms - as if checking on the condition of the occupants.</span>
<span style="font-family: Arial;">When death is near, Oscar nearly always appears at the last hour or so. Yet he shows no special interest in patients who are simply in poor shape, or even patients who may be dying but who still have a few days. Authorities in animal behaviour theorise that he might detect some subtle change in metabolism - felines are as acutely sensitive to smells as dogs - but that would not explain his interest.</span>
<big style="color: rgb(102, 51, 255);"><span style="font-family: Arial;">In any event, when Oscar settles on a patient's bed, caregivers take it as a sign that family members should be summoned immediately.</span></big>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span
style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(102, 51, 255);">"We've come to recognise him hopping on the bed as one indicator the end is very near,"</span> said Mary Miranda, charge nurse on the surprisingly cheery floor that is home to 41 patients in the final stages of Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, strokes, and other mentally debilitating diseases. <span
style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(102, 51, 255);">"Oscar's been consistently right."</span></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Keeping pets has been a trend in nursing home care for several years. The <span
style="font-style: italic;">Steere Centre</span>, founded in 1874, has 120 residents, plus six cats, a slew of parakeets and a floppy-eared rabbit. Oscar's sole domain, however, is the locked dementia ward. He came to the unit as a kitten in July 2005, brought by a staff member to replace the floor's previous resident feline, Henry, who had died some months earlier.</span>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><span
style="font-family: Arial;"></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span
style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(102, 51, 255);">"Medical people are skeptical at the start. But you wind up believing,"</span> Dr Teno said. </span><span
style="font-family: Arial; font-style: italic; color: rgb(102, 51, 255);">"Oscar is a normal cat with an extra-normal sense for death. He is drawn to death."</span>
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Occasionally, families are spooked by a cat keeping death watch, and Oscar is shooed from the bed and locked from the room. He does <span
style="font-style: italic;">not </span>like this. <span
style="color: rgb(102, 51, 255); font-style: italic;">"He kind of rubs aggressively against the door, paces back and forth, yowls in protest," </span>Dr Teno said.</span>
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Other families are deeply appreciative of Oscar.</span>
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Jack McCullough lost his mother and his aunt at <span
style="font-style: italic;">Steere</span>. </span><span
style="font-family: Arial;">His mother died in November 2005; his aunt in March this year. In both cases, Oscar hopped onto the woman's bed near the final hour, cuddling close and purring.</span>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span
style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(102, 51, 255);">"Oscar's presence gave a sense of completion and contentment," </span>Mr McCullough said. <span
style="color: rgb(102, 51, 255); font-style: italic;"> "Both women loved pets."
<span style="color: rgb(255, 0, 255);">>> PETS?! who wrote this article?!</span>
</span></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial;">He added: <span
style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(102, 51, 255);">"Oscar brought a special serenity to the room. What's more peaceful than a purring cat? What sound more beautiful to fill one's ears when leaving this life?"</span></span>

John Pilger says: <span

Gore Vidal says: <span

[of 9/11] the best, most balanced report, thus far, is by Nafeez

<br>
Nafeez's talk though didn't focus on 9/11 or 7/7. As we
know, there is a real danger in getting bogged down in debating 9/11
and 7/7 details (as important as they are) and missing the wood for the
trees.<br>
<br>
So Nafeez didn't talk specifically about 9/11 or 7/7.
Rather he presented the historical context of what's happening so we
would be able to understand what was <span
style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">"going on behind
the scenes"</span> so that we can see that <span
style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">"it really is a
phenomenon of <span style="text-decoration: underline;">creating </span>terrorism."</span><br>
<br>
In the Q&A session I thanked Nafeez for his comprehensive,
scholarly and insightful presentation and asked whether there was a
summary that could be easily read at one sitting.<br>
<br>
He recommended his magnum opus on the subject of international
terrorism <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">'The
War on Truth'</span> for a comprehensive analysis but pointed me
to a more brief analysis in a 38-page pdf entitled <span
