Hi Anaelle

Thanks for getting back, it would be great to see you at the next meeting so we can get going on this. I've forwarded this to the list if this is ok, so we can get more prep done going into the meeting.

Anna

Dear Anna,
Many thanks for your email. All your ideas sound great, all very much wanted & needed !! I especially like those that seek to increase children's participation. On my part i can definitely confirm a kidspace marquee - still working on exact shape/size but it won't be smaller than 20 x 20 ft.The budget for the rest is still not totally clear, but definitely very tight.
Like you, i'm not keen on the idea of a full-on creche for many reasons. I like the idea of mutual childcare through trust & self-organizing a lot better and i find your suggestion of a notice board to facilitate this along with other kids-related communications very interesting. I've also been thinking that i would like to get
non-parents more involved this year, perhaps by getting them to lead children workshops or just to hang out in the kidspace for an hour or two. I'll work on this bit to try and get some commitments at the next gathering.A little children/family action on the streets of london during the camp could also be an idea to explore...
To enable us to take this forward together, i could come along to your next meeting on sun 12th - in fact i'd love to do so as i've been wanting to since i saw the announcement for your first meeting on a blog, but timings & other commitments have prevented me from doing so.Look forward to hearing back from you, anaelle

Hi Anaelle

The Radical Childcare group (as a very new collective) have now discussed what we feel we can, and would like to contribute to the 'kids' part of the camp.

Rather than providing the static 24hour creche at the camp, we would like to do one or two kids days. Here are a few of the ideas we put together

Making
children’s voices heard in process – Kids consensus – Kids meetingsA parents and
children’s meeting to discuss ‘What is Radical Childcare?’ with kids
     input.Create a camp
notice board for kids and parents, to include suggestions and also
coordination of mutual childcare within camp and possible guidance on
     child protectionCreate a zine
to distribute at camp and possibly beyondUsual range
of activities such as workshops, circus skills, clowns and facepainting
All we would need to start going forward with this is confirmation from the camp that this is needed or wanted, and also confirmation that a physical safe space (i.e. a Tent) would be available.

Let me know your thoughts

Anna

Hi everyone

Please find below minutes of last nights meeting. It was a really productive one, with lots of new ideas and input.

I hope you are all well

Anna

Present: Jon, Anna, Una, Maggie,
Molly, Alice, Laura, Elizabeth and Kelly

Safer Spaces Policy

Una presented a Policy put together by a group called the Jura
collective. It was decided to post this
to the list for discussion, comments and suggestions. Ideas for inclusion were, to make it clear
that everyone is welcome to meetings, not just women. Also, possible acceptable ways of interacting
with children in the group.

AP – Una to post Jura collective
policy to list

AP – Jon to collate ideas
and draft a provisional policy

Direction of the group

Everyone individually outlined how they felt the group could work best
and which areas they would like to focus on.
Points included:

A group to
empower and facilitate parents in the movementProviding
Childcare or helping parents/groups access childcarePolitical
inclusion of children, not separated from meetings, whether that be directly in meetings or
     providing ‘Radical Education’Getting a
group of men together to provide childcare. Learning and
Networking about different approaches to childcareDiscussions
of ‘What is Radical Childcare?’ and
     providing Radical Education.Creating a
bank of people and resources for crèche work.Thinking
about childcare outside of this movementConsultation
     of Kids in processDiscuss how
far feminism has come with regards to childcare? And what is currently
     being done by other groups.Provide
guidance for groups around what children need and what parents need.

Climate Camp

With less than two months to go, we discussed what we felt we could
contribute as a group to the camp (no group has come forward to take on
childcare at the camp yet) The group felt that providing 1 or 2 ‘Kids days’ on
camp would be within our capabilities rather than a static crèche for the whole
duration of the camp. We will submit our
suggestion to the climate camp and await a response before going forward. Once we have heard back from CC we can begin
to callout for contributions. Elizabeth suggested
getting in contact with those who put on some really good childrens stuff at
Drax and also ‘Earth First’. Some
suggestions for how these days would work are as follows:

Making
children’s voices heard in process – Kids consensus – Kids meetingsA parents and
children’s meeting to discuss ‘What is Radical Childcare?’ with kids
     input.Create a camp
notice board for kids and parents, to include suggestions and also
coordination of mutual childcare within camp and possible guidance on
     child protectionCreate a zine
to distribute at camp and possibly beyondUsual range
of activities such as workshops, circus skills, clowns and facepainting.

AP –
Anna – Contact Climate Camp with an outline of what we can do

AP –
Laura – Draw together education resources and activities.

AP –
Elizabeth – To liaise with contacts involved in Drax and Earth First

Resources

Jon reported back that Larc (London Action Resource Centre) have given
the go-ahead to start storing mobile crèche resources in the basement, and also
to create a permanent toy/kids box in the main hall.

We also discussed the idea of creating an online storage area for
resources, games and activities etc.

AP – Jon and everyone to keep their
eyes out for contributions for this store.
If anyone needs to get into Larc to drop anything off, Jon has keys so
please get in contact.

Welfare Abolition Bill

Group discussed the need for some immediate action around this as it
will seriously affect those choosing to home educate. Maybe awareness leafleting within home-ed
groups as a start.

AP – Laura – to find out at
what stage the bill is at currently.

Announcements

The parents currently occupying Lewisham Bridge
 School have been served
with an eviction order. The eviction is
scheduled to take place on Wednesday 24th June at 10.30 AM. They are calling for mass support to resist
the eviction and are asking as many people as possible to stay over on Tuesday
night or get there as early as possible on Wednesday morning.

Time and Date of Next meeting

It was decided to roatate to a weekend day meeting next, so the meeting
will be on Sunday 12th July at 1pm, at the same place in the
playground next to ‘Pub on the Park’, London
Fields. If anyone would be able to do
childcare, please come forward. Look forward to seeing everyone there!
