Climate Camp

The group
discussed how the kids space went at climate camp. It was decided to prompt everyone who was
there to write a short report of their feelings about it, then we can
amalgamate this into a larger report/record to feed back into the next
gathering, to help organising the space in the future.

Here are a
few of the conclusions we came to at the meeting.

Saturday was the most amazing
day of the kids space, it was packed out with longer term campers and many
local families visiting for the day.
There were lots of exciting workshops with good feedback, and even
an on-site Rabbit! In General there was not enough
support from the rest of the campers, despite constantly trying to rally
for help. There was no mass day of
action this year, which means there should have been ample amount of
people on site at any one time to help with the space. There was really good feedback
     from local residents of Blackheath.
One parent stated she had brought her kids along to learn about
Climate Change and they’d had a really good day. Despite a sign put up in the
space, some parents used the space as a crèche and left children un
attended. The ‘kids toilets’ were too far
away from the kids space. There should have been early
lunch provision for kids, as the lunch queues were incredibly long at all
the kitchens. There was no legal briefing
from the camp, with regards to last years camp, and it became apparent
that incidents with the police, lack of support etc were reasons why last
years kids space organisers did not get involved with the camp this year.

Action
Points’s

Gemma
to email Nick regarding footage taken of the kids march.Una to
try and locate the missing circus equipmentEveryone feed
into the list their thoughts and feelings about how the space went

Setting up a blog, group admin
     and Group name

It was
decided that setting up an online blog would be a good idea. To be a central point for people to post
links, resources, reports, photos etc, and a place for people to find out about
our collective, when we start to produce leaflets etc, this can be linked on
there.

This then
rolled into a discussion about the name of our group, and the fact that the
‘Radical Childcare Collective’ was always intended as a temporary name.

It was
decided that it is quite important to drop or replace the word ‘childcare’ from
this title, for two reasons. Firstly the word in itself is a debated term. And secondly it does not represent the
umbrella of areas the group does, or may wish to be involved with in the
future. We don’t ‘provide childcare’ and
this may be suggested by retaining the word.

A new
suggestion was discussed. LONDON RADICAL KIDS
COLLECTIVE

We want to
open this up for discussion before a decision is made so welcome new
suggestions to the list please!

We need to
confirm the name in order to set up the blog change the name of the list,
produce information etc so we will give the discussion til say the 28th
of this month, then take it from there.

Action
Points:

Anna to
put out new thread to the list for name discussion, along with the group
     statement.Anna to
set up blog once this is decidedAnna to
check email account and admin list until the next meeting

Next meeting

The group
felt a meeting to discuss the direction of the group and set some short term
and long term goals would be good. And
we should try and build for this meeting but networking with other groups and
possibly leafleting relevant events (only possible when all of number 2 is
achieved!)

Una will
facilitate the next meeting, arrange the location etc and send out reminders.

Action
Points:

Una to create a ‘doodle’ and post to the list to
find the best time for the next meeting.
