<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN-BOTTOM: 8pt"><B><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt; COLOR: windowtext">HONDURAS 2009 </SPAN></B><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt; COLOR: windowtext"> Elected President Manuel Zelaya is removed from the country by the military. Thousands take to the streets to demand his reinstatement. The coup is universally condemned. Zelaya secretly returns, taking refuge in the Brazilian embassy in Tegucigalpa, the capital. </SPAN></DIV>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN-BOTTOM: 8pt"><B><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt; COLOR: windowtext">WHY?</SPAN></B><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt; COLOR: windowtext"> <B>HAITI</B> & <B>HONDURAS</B> have the lowest minimum wages, setting the standard for slave wages in the region – from sweatshops to banana production. Aristide and Zelaya enraged multinationals by raising the minimum wage and increasing spending on health and education. </SPAN></DIV>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN-BOTTOM: 8pt"><B><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt; COLOR: windowtext">HOW? </SPAN></B><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt; COLOR: windowtext"> The US has funded paramilitaries and NGOs to oppose Aristide in <B>HAITI</B>. The US and Israel work closely with the military in <B>HONDURAS</B>, while friends of the Clintons speak for the coup. International media censor the truth while propagandists like Rory Carroll <I>(Guardian)</I> slander governments that act independently of the US, IMF & World Bank. </SPAN></DIV>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN-BOTTOM: 8pt"><B><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt; COLOR: windowtext">WHAT NOW? HAITI</SPAN></B><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt; COLOR: windowtext"> is still occupied with Aristide in exile. Earlier this year people organised to boycott elections which excluded his party – only 3% voted! Bill Clinton, special UN Envoy to Haiti, urges ‘development’ – more sweatshops. </SPAN></DIV>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN-BOTTOM: 8pt"><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt; COLOR: windowtext"><B>HONDURAS</B> since the coup, many people have been killed, detained and tortured, including children, and women have been gang raped by the military. Hospitals have been raided. People's resistance -- through march, pots and pans demonstrations, general strikes -- and international pressure have forced the coup government to agree to reinstate President Zelaya. But his reinstatement is conditional on a decision by Congress which has now passed it on the Supreme Court. Honduras is still under military occupation. </SPAN></DIV>
