Hi

I was thinking about the problems with the last few Maydays (as well as
what was great about them) and also what worked in days gone by.

One of the great things that happened years ago was a multi-faceted
approach to Mayday with different events in different locations, organised
by different groups, towards the common goal of commemorating and
celebrating Mayday.

What this meant in practice was (I think) less meetings and more people
getting on with (comparatively) small things which were within their
capabilites, directing themselves according to their interests and with
less of the "what I think Mayday should do/spend money on is..." stuff.

As far as it goes with Kirkgate & 1in12, I think perhaps the 1in12 Library
could do something on Thu 2nd, and possibly some promoter could be leaned
on to put bands on one weekend or another (there certainly seems to be no
lack of bands wanting to play Mayday) which might result in a jolly pair of
weekends between Shipley and Bradford, with a march in the middle (people
always want to march).

Looking at last year's budget, most of it can be ditched if the events
(and responsibilities) can be handed back to the venues, though we might
need the Event Insurance for a gathering in Centenary Square (though I
can't quite believe the Council don't have all the required paperwork, if
they could be persuaded to value the contribution of their citizens a bit
more, rather than seeing them as an irritant).

Cheers
